About Ferguson Tire

Carl Ferguson started Ferguson Tire in 1949 while working as a teller at Bank of Weirton. Carl was an astute poker player, frequenting games at Williams Country with the Weirton Steel executives at the time.

Carl saw the need and used his winnings to purchase a small retread plant adjacent to Weirton Steel with the help of his friend George Ziegler. The business soon began to flourish with the addition of his son Gene and a blossoming retail trade that started by accident. The company steadily grew in size with the local coal mines and steel mills.

New buildings were soon added as well as large boom trucks and delivery routes. In the 1970’s the 3rd generation of Ferguson Tire emerged with the grandson’s entering the business, John and Gene Jr. They began working school nights and weekends, eventually both evolved into full time employees managing operations into the 1980’s.

The company continued to grow out of its footprint near the mill entrance gate and relocated to it’s current location on Main St in Downtown Weirton. The company is now proudly managed by the 4th generation and continues to grow and expand into new areas and opportunities.
